Recently, a homeless mother with a newborn arrived at the North Porch Center in Newark. North Porch was able to provide the mother with diapers, formula, wipes, and infant toiletries such as diaper ointment, clothes and blankets. By partnering with the Episcopal Community Development staff, the North Porch Center Coordinator not only helped the mother with baby supplieas, but also a place to stay temporarily and assistance with a permanent residence. The mother said it was the first time she felt God was looking out for her.
North Porch was recommended to another woman by her friends who are clients of North Porch. She was distraught and having a hard time functioning as a parent to her new baby. She was alone in the US having arrived on the promise of a job, only to be assaulted by her “employer”. Once she received her referral, North Porch was able to provide the physical items necessary to care for her resulting newborn while also reaching out to our spiritual community so that this woman was no longer alone.
